Sheep farming isn’t just about what goes on at the farm. Shows and conferences are perfect places to get the latest ideas and have a little fun while you’re at it. Ready to get out there? 1. THE SHEEP SHOW
1st - 2nd September 2018 Charminster, Dorset | Dorset County Show The Sheep Show appears at over 100 shows a year in front of an estimated audience of 2.5 million. Introducing its audience to topics like different breed’s qualities or explaining how sheep’s wool is turned into clothes the 30 minute show is in equal parts funny and informative,. 2. NSA SOUTH SHEEP
8th September 2018 Ardingly, Sussex | South of England Showground Sheep farming seminars, discussions and workshops discussing practical and topical issues in the industry. 3. LLANDOVERY SHEEP FESTIVAL
22nd - 23rd September 2018 Llandovery, Carmarthenshire A festival dedicated to “celebrating all things sheep”, with all sorts of fun on offer. Expect wool crafts, sheep dog trials, craft courses, music and a heavy Viking presence evident in the numerous battle enactments performed at the festival! May 2019 Ballantrae, South Ayrshire | Kings Arms Farm Hosted on a farm with a flock of 1,400 ewes, this event gathers together over 200 commercial, sheep-breed society and individual stands, along with competitions, working demonstrations and seminars. 6. THE NSA SHEEP EVENT
July 2019 Malvern, Worcestershire | Three Counties Showground The biennial flagship event of the National Sheep Association. Expect to find out about the latest innovations and products and gain access to a range of seminars and workshops aimed at strengthening sheep farming knowledge and practices. Dave is an RCVS advanced practitioner in Sheep Health and Production. He qualified from the Royal (Dick) Veterinary College in 2004, working mainly as a production animal veterinary surgeon, until joining Zoetis (previously known as Pfizer Animal Health) in 2010 as an Area Veterinary Manager. In 2015 Dave joined the Zoetis National Veterinary Manager team.
Dave’s areas of interest are the health and production of sheep and the sustainable control of parasites in farm animals. He is the chair of the NOAH anti-parasitics committee and sits on various national cross industry bodies including the sustainable control of parasites in sheep (SCOPS) board.
Dave is from a farming background and still manages his own flock of pedigree Texel and commercial mule sheep on the Welsh-Shropshire border.
