Sheep farming isn’t just about what goes on at the farm. To become a successful sheep farmer it’s vital that you get out there and learn from others in the industry; upskilling, sharing knowledge and getting fresh insight on the trade. Shows and conferences are perfect places to get the latest ideas and have a little fun while you’re at it. Ready to get out there? 1. THE SHEEP SHOW

1st - 2nd September 2018
Charminster, Dorset | Dorset County Show
The Sheep Show appears at over 100 shows a year in front of an estimated audience of 2.5 million. Introducing its audience to topics like different breed’s qualities or explaining how sheep’s wool is turned into clothes the 30 minute show is in equal parts funny and informative,. With their warm and entertaining performances, the presenters and their sheep have captured the hearts of many.

2. NSA SOUTH SHEEP

8th September 2018
Ardingly, Sussex | South of England Showground
Sheep farming seminars, discussions and workshops discussing practical and topical issues in the industry. There will also be a farm dog trial, “gift of the gavel” and prime lamb competition.

3. LLANDOVERY SHEEP FESTIVAL

22nd - 23rd September 2018
Llandovery, Carmarthenshire
A festival dedicated to “celebrating all things sheep”, with all sorts of fun on offer. Expect wool crafts, sheep dog trials, craft courses, music and a heavy Viking presence evident in the numerous battle enactments performed at the festival! There’ll be a selection of rare sheep on display and you’ll have the opportunity to learn traditional blade sheep shearing.

4. SCOTSHEEP

May 2019
Ballantrae, South Ayrshire | Kings Arms Farm
Hosted on a farm with a flock of 1,400 ewes, this event gathers together over 200 commercial, sheep-breed society and individual stands, along with competitions, working demonstrations and seminars. It covers all aspects of sheep production, from husbandry, nutrition and health to marketing and the promotion of the finished product.

6. THE NSA SHEEP EVENT

July 2019
Malvern, Worcestershire | Three Counties Showground
The biennial flagship event of the National Sheep Association. Expect to find out about the latest innovations and products and gain access to a range of seminars and workshops aimed at strengthening sheep farming knowledge and practices. The event kicks off with an industry dinner the night before. During the day of the event you can expect competitions and sales to keep you entertained.

7. NSA SOUTH WEST REGION RAM SALE

15th August 2019
Exeter, Devon | Exeter Livestock Centre
The annual sale has grown every year of its 30 year history and is famed for its high standards and rigorous inspection. As well as the usual breeds, crossbred shearling rams have proved a popular attraction since 2015.
